Schooners are a fairly rare sight in the Pacific Northwest. I am lucky enough get to regularly see and sail with the schooner Adventuress. The Adventuress had a close call this week when she ran aground Monday on Bell Rock at the East entrance to Wasp Pass.
The Adventurous was quickly aided, at the request of the Coast Guard, by the Stealth and Evergreen State ferries. No one was injured and the Adventurous was floated again on the next high tide. Inspections have not revealed any damage and she is expected to return to service.
Thankfully everything turned out okay. These kinds of incidents are reminder to me that sailing in the beautiful San Juan islands is not without risk, even for professional skippers.
