This image was one I captured for my ongoing "Morning Light" photography project. I want to "nudge" myself out of the house a bit more often for the sunrise and beautiful golden hour light of morning. As a landscape photographer it was long past time that I started regularly shooting sunrises and the rewards have been amazing.
We've had a stormy winter in the Pacific Northwest and this shot was the calm before another storm headed in from the west. Luckily I got just enough clearing in the east to let the sunrise in but still had beautiful clouds and mist.
There was a slight breeze and since I wanted to extenuate the reflection of the sky on the water I dragged the shutter a bit for a 2.5s exposure. This flattened the water and turned it too glass. All that was left was to take a number of different shots as the mist rolled across the lake and the sun came up and pick a favorite. That was probably the hardest part.
